Cymphonix's Version 8 Secure Web Gateway Appliance Includes HTTPS/SSL Content Filtering and Unparalleled Content Filter Avoidance Controls for SMB and Education

October 29, 2007; 07:26 AM

SANDY, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cymphonix today announced that Network Composer Version 8 secure web gateway is now shipping to SMB, education, library and hospitality customers worldwide. The latest firmware introduces enhancements in content filtering, content shaping/content prioritization and content reporting, features that have previously been unavailable to the small and mid-sized market in a combined solution.

Because of the increasing effectiveness and availability of encrypted anonymous proxies, Network Composer Version 8 introduces full SSL inspection as well as layer 7 and dynamic content analysis for blocking anonymous proxy activity - effectively preventing users from bypassing their content filter. This new capability also provides administrators the ability to accurately filter HTTP traffic over SSL connections (commonly referred to as HTTPS traffic).

With the increase in secure web traffic and availability of filter avoidance tools, Network Composer Version 8 redefines the way content is controlled, said Terry Rataiczak, CEO of Kinetic Networking, a Cymphonix channel partner. Version 8 provides my customers with better control of all their Internet content - making it easier for them to enforce Internet usage policies.

Network Composer Version 8 also includes enhanced content shaping and content prioritization controls. The new firmware allows administrators to set bandwidth limits on any website, category, MIME type and file type. These new controls prevent non-critical traffic from utilizing bandwidth resources that should be going to critical traffic. For example, administrators can set policy to limit resources available for a social networking site whenever bandwidth is needed for access to the organization's customer relationship management site.

Because of the changing state of the Internet, many sites can no longer be categorized as block' or allow'; but rather should be prioritized by how critical they are to the organization's success, said Brent Nixon, President of Cymphonix. Network Composer Version 8 delivers a new approach at managing content so that critical URLs, categories of sites and other content get the resources they need.

Other enhancements in Version 8 provide greater visibility into Internet traffic with real-time web request and web bandwidth reports so that administrators can watch what users are doing online in real-time. New web bandwidth reports let administrators see how much of their bandwidth is going to web browsing.

Availability

Network Composer Version 8 is now generally available to new customers worldwide. Existing Network Composer owners with current annual software maintenance (ASM) agreements can upgrade to Version 8 at the end of October 2007 at no additional charge.

Network Composer Version 8 delivers complete secure web gateway capabilities to organizations with 25-5000 users, providing exceptional value to small and medium sized businesses with 100 to 1000 users and schools with 1000 to 5000 users.
