Ten Days Left to Enter SharedBook's Web Development Contest

October 22, 2007; 06:16 AM
New York, NY (PRWEB) October 22, 2007 -- SharedBook Inc., the Reverse Publishing Platform provider, announced today that entries for the SharedBook Open API Challenge will close Wednesday, Oct. 31 at midnight. The contest will award the best extensions from third party applications to SharedBook in three categories: 1) social networking, 2) photo sharing, and 3) desktop applications or collaborative online communities.

Using the SharedBook open application programming interface (API) developers can flow content from any Web site - archived materials, database content, photographs and user-generated content, among other items - into a structured book product that can be purchased immediately, or personalized further.

Projects can be installed as plug-ins to existing online applications or implemented as standalone Web applications. API wrappers and components connecting clients to SharedBook's Reverse Publishing Platform using Java, PHP and Python languages are available at http://www.sharedbook.com/dev/resources.html

"Developers should know that they cannot lose by participating in the SharedBook Open API Challenge," said Caroline Vanderlip, Chief Executive Officer, SharedBook Inc. "The contest is structured to reward all participants by offering a 10 percent share of any books sold as a result of their development efforts. Twenty percent is available to the winners in each category for any books sold as a result of their entry."

Base pricing for the API books is set at $19.95 for softcover and $27.95 for hardcover. Therefore, the winning developers will receive a minimum of $3.99 each time a book sells as a result of their development. Winners will also receive their choice of an OpenMoko Neo 1973 mobile phone, an 8GB iPhone™ or $500.

A panel of five will evaluate the entries based on their business utility, originality and technical elegance including Dion Almaer, Co-founder of Ajaxian.com, and Benny Schlesinger, Chief Technical Officer, Jacada, Ltd. (Nasdaq: JCDA).
