New Website Provides Developers Easy Access to Builds of MySQL and Related Products

April 25, 2007; 05:32 AM
Solid Information Technology, the leading provider of fast, always-on and affordable databases used in more than 3,000,000 mission-critical deployments worldwide, and Proven Scaling, a consulting firm specializing in MySQL technology, today announced the launch of DorsalSource.org (http://dorsalsource.org), a community-focused website whose goal is to provide builds of MySQL Server, solidDB for MySQL, and other MySQL-related products. The site will be showcased this week at the 2007 MySQL Conference & Expo in Solid’s booth #401.

Providing the open source community with easy access to a growing portfolio of builds for MySQL-based products and tools, DorsalSource.org is the place where developers can go to find the binary files they need. The site currently offers builds of solidDB for MySQL and MySQL Server for Linux, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. There are already 39 different builds available on the site. In the future, DorsalSource will host additional MySQL-related products on a variety of platforms and will allow developers to contribute new binaries. All scripts for automatic build creation will be contributed to the community and covered by GNU Public License (GPL).

“As MySQL community members, we are always looking for smarter ways to get our job done and share ideas and resources with others,” said Jeremy Cole, Proven Scaling. “DorsalSource.org is another step in that direction.”

“In developing solidDB for MySQL, we created useful automation techniques to extract source code and build both MySQL Server and solidDB for MySQL,” said Paola Lubet, vice president of business development and marketing, Solid Information Technology. “The work that went into creating DorsalSource.org has made our internal release processes more efficient. Now with DorsalSource.org the entire community benefits from this effort.”

About solidDB for MySQL

solidDB for MySQL is a turbo-charged version of MySQL database that leverages solidDB Storage Engine to support heavy transaction volumes and large numbers of concurrent users. It is 100% compatible with MySQL because it includes exactly the same code as the regular MySQL database that users already know, including the same MySQL drivers and tools that have been developed by MySQL AB, its ecosystem partners, and the community.
