The New York Times Launches New Mobile Site; Full Daily Contents of NYTimes.com Now Accessible on Mobile Phones; http://mobile.nytimes.comSeptember 8, 2006; 03:02 AM "The NYTimes.com mobile site reinforces our commitment to offer readers the high-quality journalism of The New York Times across all platforms," said Vivian Schiller, senior vice president and general manager, NYTimes.com. "We are thrilled to now offer such a rich reading experience on mobile devices. We will continue to take advantage of all digital technology to provide our readers with Times journalism where, when and how they want it." Providing a similar navigation to the Web site, the NYTimes.com mobile site provides a version of NYTimes.com that is easily read and navigated on mobile phones. The site is not dependent on carriers. Any consumer who has a Web-enabled phone and pays for a Web data plan will be able to access the mobile site. All NYTimes.com mobile site visitors can view NYTimes.com sections, articles and photos without needing to register and can search the seven-day news archive. NYTimes.com registration is required to e-mail an article, and TimesSelect registration is required to read TimesSelect columns and to utilize the News Tracker alert and Times File tools. NYTimes.com worked with Starcut USA Inc to develop the mobile site. The site is advertiser-supported. Microsoft Windows Mobile has signed on as the debut advertiser. All pages on the mobile site (with the exception of the Log In page) will have a banner ad at the top and a sponsorship of article tools. Many enhancements for the mobile site are planned, including new tools allowing readers access to weather, stock prices, sports scores and movie showtimes. Each tool will be accompanied by a new sponsorship opportunity.
