Creators of IT's Leading Open Source-Based Monitoring and Management Tools Join GroundWork's New ''Open Source Council''

August 16, 2006; 04:59 AM

GroundWork Open Source, Inc. (www.groundworkopensource.com), leader in open source-based IT operations management solutions, today announced the formation of their new Open Source Council, comprised exclusively of lead developers from today's best-of-breed open source IT infrastructure and network monitoring projects.

By providing ongoing guidance to GroundWork for its product roadmap, the council underscores GroundWork's commitment to provide the very best and most comprehensive IT monitoring solutions -- now and in the future.

At LinuxWorld San Francisco -- on August 16th, at 6 p.m. -- the GroundWork Open Source Council will run a birds-of-a-feather session to meet their user base and solicit feedback. The event is open to all LinuxWorld attendees.

"I joined GroundWork's Open Source Council because they are the only vendor with concrete ideas about how to support our efforts to make the world's best open-source enterprise monitoring system, while keeping Ganglia completely independent and free to develop as our community wishes," said Matt Massie, creator and lead developer for the Ganglia project.

"A group of developers of this breadth and depth in IT tools has never been assembled before," said Ranga Rangachari, CEO of GroundWork Open Source. "With their help, GroundWork will continue to advance the cutting edge in open source-based IT operations management. The council both assures and insures our customers that GroundWork will always be comprised of the very best open source projects comprehensively integrated into a platform that's easy to use and optimized for their IT environments."

Initial members of GroundWork's newly-formed Open Source Council include the creators and overseers of some of today's most popular open source monitoring and management technologies, including: Tobi Oetiker (RRDtool, MRTG, SmokePing), Remo Rickli (NeDi), Ian Berry (Cacti), Matt Massie (Ganglia), Alex Russell (Dojo) and Sendpage (Kees Cook).

-- MRTG (http://oss.oetiker.ch/mrtg/index.en.html) is an open source network SNMP collector.

-- RRDtool (http://oss.oetiker.ch/rrdtool/index.en.html) is an open source report generation tool.

-- SmokePing (http://oss.oetiker.ch/smokeping/) is a deluxe latency measurement tool.

-- Dojo (http://dojotoolkit.org/) is the open source JavaScript toolkit that makes professional web development better, easier and faster.
