Umundo Announces Mobile-to-iPod Video Sharing

August 7, 2006; 06:50 AM

Umundo, a Bay area start-up specializing in automatic content distribution technologies, announced the capability to view, publish and share video clips taken with camera-enabled phones or mobile devices, on Apple's Video iPod. Umundo is designed to work directly with any mobile phone without additional software. Video clips and pictures are published to and viewed on popular web properties such as MySpace, My Yahoo!, Google and iTunes.

"The Video iPod is a very successful entertainment platform and is deployed in large number in the youth market," said Prashant Parekh, founder and CEO of the company. "A Umundo user can subscribe to mobile podcasts and will automatically receive and sync to his or her Video iPod clips and photographs sent by friends from their mobile phones. In addition consumers can utilize the personal content sharing capability offered by Umundo on several popular web sites."

Umundo is a free service and doesn't require registration or subscription. Video clips and pictures from camera phones and mobile devices can be sent directly via multimedia messaging service (MMS) or via e-mail.

"We have included viewing on a Video iPod as an option to offer more choice to the consumer; we convert the files produced by phones (3GPP and 3GPP2) to the format accepted by the iPod device (H.264), to bring a high quality video," added Prashant. "We also enable photo pictures sharing on to the Video iPod, by helping users create an iPhoto compatible 'photocast'."

Umundo utilizes RSS Syndication Engine, its patent pending technology. This technology enables tagging, filtering, media format conversion and bittorrent P2P distribution among several other features.
