McAfee, Inc. and Skype has
announced that the McAfee Internet Security Suite 2006, McAfee
VirusSca 2006 and McAfee Personal Firewall 2006 products have
been Skype Certified. This confirms that these McAfee security
products meet Skype's strict standards for security, quality and
usability.
Both
Skype and McAfee are committed to helping Internet users protect the
information stored on their PCs. Now Skype Certified, McAfee Internet
Security Suite and VirusScan provide added security for all data on a
person's computer.
For example, files sent using the Skype
file transfer function can be easily scanned by the Skype certified
McAfee products, adding an extra layer of protection to documents
shared in
an already secure environment. Skype calls and chats have always been
and will remain private and protected using Skype's encryption
technology.
"We
have over 113 million customers and we want our community to use their
computers in the safest way possible, which includes having virus
protection," said Kurt Sauer, Skype's Chief Security Officer. "Skype is
already very secure, and McAfee's products are complementary, securing
the rest of the PC environment."
McAfee
Internet Security Suite 2006, McAfee VirusScan 2006 and McAfee Personal
Firewall 2006 will all be Skype certified. The McAfee Internet Security
Suite 2006 will also carry the Skype certification mark on retail
packaging.
According
to Sarah Whipp, Senior Director, EMEA Marketing, McAfee, "We are very
committed to providing Internet users with the best possible experience
in a fully protected PC environment. McAfee is delighted to be working
with Skype because together, we can ensure users stay safe
online."
Skype Certified McAfee products are available online
at: http://www.mcafeestore.com/ and are currently available at leading
retailers across Europe. This is a global agreement. Initial rollout
has begun throughout EMEA and will move to other regions in the near
future.
McAfee Internet Security Suite 2006 prevents viruses,
spyware, hackers, and "phishing" scams that may result in lost files,
identity theft, and poor PC performance. McAfee Internet Security Suite
blocks unwanted
junk e-mail, intrusive pop-up ads and filters unwanted or offensive
Internet and e-mail content.
Skype
software is built upon a robust Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and
incorporates industry standard advanced encryption technology that uses
256-bit AES, SHA-1 and RSA algorithms. Skype provides seamless
end-to-end encryption for all of its users, which no other VoIP or IM
vendors provide today.
