SoniByte and Wired News have partnered to convert written content to spoken-word digital audio and distribute it through podcasts. August 1, 2006; 08:15 AM Wired News has selected Sonibyte, a digital audio solutions provider,
to convert select content and create a podcast channel of Wired News
columns and blogs. The channel has been piloted and proven to be
successful, attracting tens of thousands of downloads per week. The
podcast is publicly available through Wired.com, iTunes and other
podcast directories. In addition, individual articles on Wired.com are
available for download.
Wired News Managing Editor Leander Kahney, who has been running the
program, commented, “We are excited to offer our content in this new
medium to our readers. We cover emerging technologies, so it's natural
for us to embrace podcasting. We leverage our existing content for very
low cost and making it available for listening as well as reading. We
have been pleased with Sonibyte’s service to date and the turnkey
nature of their service.”
The podcast features a blend of professional voice-over artists and
Wired News columnists reading Wired News columns. It is delivered via
RSS (Real Simple Syndication) and can be set up to automatically
download to an iPod or other portable media device. Based on the early
success of this business podcast, Wired News plans to expand the
articles being distributed in digital audio format to include more core
content.
“We are happy to be partnering with Wired News on this initiative,”
commented Sonibyte CEO Daniel Rowe. “We are working towards our goal of
providing quality audio content to a podcasting world that is somewhat
flooded with ‘garage-casts.’ Users can now experience Wired News'
content while working out, or on the way to work, or in any other venue
where one’s eyes are occupied but one’s mind is ready to be engaged.”
