WebEx Completes Automatic Microsoft ActiveX Security UpdateJuly 13, 2006; 04:27 AM To ensure the constant security of its service, WebEx announced the completion of an automatic update to its client software across customer sites. More then 95% of customer sites now include the latest client and users will be updated automatically when they use the service. The remaining customer sites are expected to be updated shortly. WebEx uses ActiveX to download additional technology components needed for a meeting. This update resolved a vulnerability within the ActiveX control used to install its web meeting software. WebEx has not received any reports of computers being compromised by this now resolved vulnerability. According to security best practices, WebEx has also provided a detailed security advisory and update tool for those who wish to manually update their client at: www.webex.com/go/advisory. (For international versions of this update page please see the bottom of this release.) WebEx conducts security tests as part of an ongoing quality assurance program. As part of that program, WebEx works with third parties including Internet Security Systems (ISS) and iSEC. ISS and iSEC played key roles in helping to identify and resolve this ActiveX vulnerability. About WebEx |
