CNET Expands Line of Technology and Entertainment Podcasts

May 24, 2006; 05:23 AM
CNET added four new podcasts to its already successful line-up of audio programming. Available for free and located at the new CNET Podcast Central (http://podcast.cnet.com), the podcasts are created by CNET's team of editorial experts and producers, and provide consumers with tips, tricks and advice about navigating today's digital world.

The new podcasts include:

-- Gadget Girls -- Hosts Molly Wood, executive editor of CNET.com and Kelly Morrison, CNET Download.com's director of content development, discuss the latest gadgets on the market and tech's influence on pop-culture

-- Studio C (http://studioc.cnet.com) -- Also hosted by Kelly Morrison, as well as CNET Download.com director of programming Nick Tangborn, Studio C brings independent musicians into the CNET Studio for acoustic performances and interviews to discuss how technology has impacted their careers

-- MP3 Insider -- James Kim, CNET.com senior editor covering MP3 and digital audio, and Veronica Belmont, associate producer, will keep listeners in the loop on the latest digital music and video news, hardware, software and media services

-- The Real Deal -- Demystifying the world of tech, CNET.com executive editor Tom Merritt gives listeners the scoop on deals, steals, tips and tricks to buying and making the best use of consumer electronics and the Internet.

CNET's audio franchises leverage the knowledge and personalities of its expert editorial staff to create original programs that inform, entertain and build community. Podcasts like CNET.com's "Buzz Out Loud" and CNET News.com's "Daily Tech News," which launched in the past year, have steadily grown in popularity and cultivated loyal followings. They have regularly appeared in the iTunes top 100 podcast list, and Buzz Out Loud fans have even created a Wikipedia description that details the idiosyncrasies of the show and its hosts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buzz_Out_Loud).

"We're taking a formula that has proven success over the last year and applying it to even more topics that our users care about," said Joe Gillespie, executive vice president of CNET. "The new podcasts, like all of CNET's offerings -- from its unbiased reviews, to how-to content, to videos and audio programs -- are intended to help consumers make the right decisions and get the most out of their gadgets and technology in general."
