Vyatta today announced the availability of version 1.1 of its Open Flexible Router (OFR), a high performance LAN and WAN routing solution for small and medium-sized businesses. The new release includes support for T3 WAN connections and provides compatibility with third-party application packages from Debian GNU/Linux. Debian package compatibility allows users to extend the capabilities of the OFR with numerous third-party applications from the Debian universe, including the Openswan IPsec VPN, Asterisk VoIP PBX, and ClamAV anti-virus scanner. The OFR software is available for download by OFR subscription customers from the Vyatta support web site at http://www.vyatta.com/support/. Vyatta will make the version 1.1 capabilities available in its freely-downloadable OFR Community Edition in early 2007.

“Vyatta was founded on the belief that networking infrastructure products need to be opened up to allow customers to control the features and functionality present in the system,” said Kelly Herrell, CEO of Vyatta. “Some of our customers want a minimal system, without any feature bloat while others want to be able to extend the OFR with additional packages. Release 1.1 makes it easier than ever for customers to tune the system to their own preferences. The OFR provides a magic combination of robust functionality, flexibility to add new features, and an economical price point – along with the peace of mind that comes with a commercial software subscription and fully supported hardware and software.”

“The Sermonspice web site has streamed thousands of videos through the Vyatta OFR over the last few months,” said Adam Temple, founder of Sermonspice. “We love the ability to control our own destiny that the OFR makes possible. We're excited about the new Debian-compatibility features in the latest release that will allow us to extend the OFR to meet future needs. With pricing that is one-eighth the cost of a comparable Cisco router and excellent service and support, the OFR has been a great addition to our network.”

The Vyatta Community, a public forum for Vyatta users and developers, features tools, discussions, blogs, newsfeeds, and provides an interactive resource for getting started with the OFR. To order or download the OFR, or to join the Vyatta community, go to www.vyatta.com.

“Vyatta” is the ancient Sanskrit word meaning “open” – a fitting name for a company that was created to bring commercial-quality, open-source networking products to market. Open source has created a profound change in the market place, shifting the balance of power from large corporations back to the users of products. Open source is about cost savings, increased flexibility and choice, and better security. Vyatta is bringing those qualities to the world of network infrastructure products.
