Liferay, provider of an enterprise-class, open source portal and content management system, announced today that it has been named to the “EContent 100,” EContent magazine’s list of the 100 most influential and innovative companies in the digital content industry. The list, assembled by the editors and staff of EContent magazine, includes such world-renowned software, Internet and publishing companies as Adobe Systems, Bloomberg, Google, IBM, Yahoo!, and Microsoft.

The EContent 100 ranks companies by their impact on the digital content industry. According to Michelle Manafy, editor of EContent, the companies selected are those that demonstrate “how far econtent reaches into our work and our lives and how the tools to make the most of it matter more than ever.”

Unlike many other industry accolades, companies may not nominate themselves for inclusion in the EContent 100. EContent magazine’s professional staff members generate their own lists, which are then debated and ultimately assembled into the one hundred finalists.

The award recognizes Liferay’s broad CMS offerings, including Liferay Journal, a structured web publishing system that delivers high-traffic sites such as www.csmonitor.com and www.theo2.co.uk. Liferay also ships with Document Library, which stores documents and additional information such as version, author and publication date to help an enterprise collaborate on its information assets. WebDAV makes it easy to work with these documents in the portal like Windows files.

Among the many companies and organizations now using Liferay Portal and CMS are Goodwill Industries International, Discovery Communications, British Telecom, O2, AutoZone, Bangkok Airways and the Christian Science Monitor.

“From its inception, Liferay held a vision that companies and organizations of all sizes would be receptive to an integrated portal, web publishing, and content management solution that would lower costs, increase ease of development, and leverage the latest in technology,” said Chan. “We wish to thank the editors and staff of EContent magazine for recognizing our efforts.”
