Pure Networks, a leading supplier of home networking software, and Symantec have entered into a partnership to make it easier for consumers to set up, manage, and secure home networks. Symantec will distribute Network Magic, the home networking software from Pure Networks, to users of its consumer security products. Network Magic customers will be able to easily purchase up-to-date security software from their Network Magic software. Together, the two companies offer home networking and security products to a large and targeted audience.

Network Magic makes it easy for consumers to set up, manage and protect their home network with a simple click-through process. Network Magic also helps maintain security of the network by locking out piggy backers and intruders. With Network Magic's Network Map, the user can see the security status of each PC on a home network and be alerted if a computer on the network needs virus protection software. As part of the partnership, users of core Symantec consumer products, including Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus, can take advantage of a special offer on Network Magic from the Symantec store.

"As more homes have multiple PCs and the demand for home networks is growing, the need for security on the PCs as well as the network is becoming greater," said Vincent Steckler, SVP Consumer Products and Solutions, Symantec. "Network Magic makes security on home networks easier to implement and maintain, and by partnering with them we will help the rising number of networked homes stay protected with Symantec's superior consumer security products."

The number of wireless home networks continues to grow, but most are open and unsecured due to the complexities typically associated with setting up, maintaining, and monitoring wireless security. As a result, many home networks will be plagued by slower internet speeds and potential exposure of personal information to intruders and piggybackers. Symantec and Network Magic work together to keep home networks secure -- Symantec's products protect PCs on a home network, and Network Magic monitors the network to identify any security concerns.

"This partnership is a big step forward for the home networking market," said Jeff Erwin, president and CEO. "The world's leader in consumer security solutions will be distributing Network Magic, making it easier for people to set up and protect their home networks."
