Network Solutions ,a provider of Web-based solutions, announced its new e-mail security service, called MessageGuard. This new subscription service allows businesses and consumers to easily and affordably send and receive encrypted e-mail messages from Outlook and Outlook Express e-mail clients. Securing e-mail communications should be a concern for all of the estimated 400 million Outlook and Outlook Express users, but is particularly important for businesses that must comply with federal, state or industry regulations requiring protection of data.

E-mail is such a common form of communication today that consumers and business owners alike might sometimes forget how easy it is for their e-mail content to be viewed by unwanted sources, said Champ Mitchell, chairman and CEO of Network Solutions. Our MessageGuard service allows customers to easily send sensitive information securely.

MessageGuard was designed to allow anyone to easily and affordably send e-mails safely, knowing that only the intended recipient(s) can open the messages. With MessageGuard, customers can send secure e-mail messages and attachments to anyone, even non-MessageGuard subscribers, regardless of the recipients e-mail service provider. Using award-winning Identity-Based Encryption (IBE) technology, MessageGuard does not require users to have an existing relationship with the recipient, so there is no need to exchange passwords, keys or certificates like other competitive services on the market.

Consumers, businesses or company departments that have a need to send sensitive e-mail content, can merely sign up for the MessageGuard service, download and install a small plug-in for Outlook or Outlook Express, and then click the Send Secure button any time they want to encrypt a message. When the e-mail is opened, MessageGuard quickly authenticates the recipient before decrypting the message. Recipients can read and reply to secure messages without subscribing to MessageGuard, paying fees or downloading software.

Anyone who sends business contracts, credit card numbers, personal information (e.g. social security numbers), and even account numbers via e-mail are perfect candidates for this service. MessageGuard is particularly ideal for those who need help meeting the e-mail security requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) or other governmental and industry regulations. It provides an economical and easy-to-use security add-on to an e-mail account.

MessageGuard is available to all Outlook and Outlook Express users for $9.95 per month per e-mailbox or $99.50 per year per e-mailbox. Volume and term discounts are also available.
