July 28th Is System Administrator Day
WebKnowHow Friday, July 28th, 2006, is the 7th annual System Administrator Appreciation Day. The special occasion, held on the last Friday of July, was conceived and subsequently popularized by Ted Kekatos, with the support of a handful of web professionals. During the years, the event has attracted the attention of big media and IT heavyweights.
Kekatos, a system administrator himself, was inspired to create the special day by an
advetisement. In the ad, a system administrator is presented
with flowers and fruit-baskets from employees as symbols of gratitude for installing a new printer. System Administrator Appreciation Day's official corner of the web is available at ahttp://www.sysadminday.com. There visitors will find their credo, a list of media sightings and links to related international chapters. The site is also complete with an entertaining image gallery and gift ideas for sysadmins. From the official website: "A sysadmin installed the routers, laid the cables, configured the networks, set up the firewalls, and watched and guided the traffic for each hop of the network that runs over copper, fiber optic glass, and even the air itself to bring the Internet to your computer. All to make sure the webpage found its way from the server to your computer." So, everybody, be sure to find a moment to thank your sysadmin tomorrow. |
