Mozilla Continues to Grow

The share of people using the Mozilla Firefox browser continued to grow in the past month.  According to two separate studies, released June 9th and 10th,  the free web browser gained market share in the period May-June 2006.

Acording to the first study, conducted by web-analytics company OneStat, Firefox usage has increased 1.14% since May.  In June it was estimated to be 12.93%, which is still low, compared to Internet Explorer's 83%.  Usage of Explorer, however, decreased by more than 2% during the same period.  That can be attributed to users moving towards less popular browsers like Opera, Safari, and Netscape.

Another snapshot of web browser shares, conducted by visitor tracking service W3Counter.com, shows a different picture. Its June study of web browser usage pinpointed Firefox's growing share at 26%.

Though the site use different metrics methods, the most likely reason for the result discrepancy is that tech-savvy people tend to use "novelty" browsers, and visitors to W3counter affiliated sites belong to that group.  On the other hand, OneStat's sample group is larger and should provide a more accurate global picture.
