Alfresco Software, Inc., provider of an open source enterprise content management solution, today announced the availability of Alfresco 2.0 for the distributed enterprise. The connected Web 2.0 user is tired of the stove-pipe culture of existing enterprise applications. Distributed content management provides these users with integrated repositories, search across multiple different repositories as well as the Internet and enables simple applications to access to multiple repositories.
Alfresco 2.0 breaks the mold of legacy ECM systems by delivering simple, standards-based, distributed search encompassing not only multiple Alfresco repositories but the internet as well. This is complemented by a simple content solution packaging mechanism -- Alfresco Module Packaging (AMP). Alfresco 2.0 also delivers an integrated content platform with the production release of Web Content Management and AMP-enabled Records Management.
Alfresco 2.0 highlights include:
-- OpenSearch -- Standards-based search across multiple Alfresco content
repositories and other RSS or Atom repositories including Blogs and Wikis
-- Web Content Management Production Release -- Simple and rapid import
of existing websites with support for any content authoring or web
-- Alfresco Module Packaging (AMP) -- Package up complete content
solutions to share globally across all repositories. AMP packages include
code, content model content and folder structures
-- AMP enabled Records Management -- Simply develop and consistently
distribute records management policies according to corporate rules through
"For the last 15 years corporations have had the problem of searching across multiple content repositories," said CTO and Co-founder John Newton. "Web 2.0 has made content even more distributed, federated and multi-lingual with blogs, wikis and RSS driving content creation and consumption out to the masses. Alfresco 2.0 builds on our experience of building ECM systems to deliver an integrated suite that can search and manage content globally and deliver it in a way that is as simple as a shared drive or a Google search."
