5 Minute Install of Alfresco Stack Now Available; Process That Took Days for Commercial Products Now Done in MinutesMay 9, 2006; 03:16 AM The mantra of Simple Open Source is Simple to install, Simple to use and Simple to scale out. Recently at BrainShare, as part of a speed install competition, Charles Hucks of Richland School District Two, Columbia, South Carolina installed the whole ECM stack in 1 minute 20 seconds. This involved installing a MySQL(R) database; Tomcat; Java and OpenOffice with supported JSR-168, JSR-170, Web Services, WebDav and CIFS (Microsoft File Share protocol) interfaces. "When you install a whole open source ECM stack you expect to have to go to SourceForge, find the relevant components, download them and then spend a serious amount of time installing each component," said Hucks. "The installation was incredibly simple with just a few simple clicks and no requirements to write any code at all. It took me just over a minute to get installed." "The success of open source is driving proprietary vendors to put out myths about open source being difficult to install, difficult to use and requiring modification of source code to function with other products," said Dr. Ian Howells, CMO, Alfresco. "Our customer's experiences with Simple Open Source show these to be the myths they are." Details on how to access the installer can be found at: http://dev.alfresco.com/downloads/ Or at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id= 143373&package_id=157460&release_id=396245 (Due to the length of this URL, it may be necessary to copy and paste it into your Internet browser's URL address field.
