Solid Information Technology, the leading provider of fast, always-on and affordable databases used in more than 3,000,000 mission-critical deployments worldwide, today announced the 2007 product roadmap of solidDB for MySQL. Leveraging Solid’s 15 year track record of innovation, solidDB for MySQL will bring forth always-on data availability, real-time performance, and powerful data distribution capabilities. For the first time, MySQL users will be able to take advantage of these advanced capabilities that are required to preserve business continuity and provide high level of service to end-users.

These highly differentiated capabilities, to be delivered over the next 12 months, include:

Always-On Data Availability: To minimize the risk of data service outage and allow system maintenance during business hours, this capability will entail a unique hot-standby architecture that will enable solidDB for MySQL to instantly and transparently re-establish data access in case of system failure, enabling enterprises to deliver higher quality of service at lower operational cost.

In-Memory Performance: To continue raising the performance bar to new heights, solidDB for MySQL will implement an in-memory storage engine with data structures and access methods specifically designed for random memory access. This in-memory capability will persist the data to disk and maintain its durability, while delivering exceptional transaction speeds for maximum performance.

Powerful Bi-directional Data Distribution: To allow for the development and deployment of distributed data-driven solutions, an advanced bi-directional data replication capability will store, manage, and synchronize data across multiple instances of solidDB for MySQL. The transactions performed on one database instance will be able to be propagated asynchronously to one or more other instances, moving data closer to users and providing access to transaction-consistent data at any scale and from any location.

While Solid works to deliver these powerful functionalities, users can already take advantage of version 5.0 of solidDB for MySQL which has been generally available since December 2006. This turbo-charged version of the MySQL database leverages solidDB Storage Engine to support heavy transaction volumes and large numbers of concurrent users. Benchmark results published last month confirmed that solidDB for MySQL is the open source database that meets the performance and scalability requirements of high throughput, mission-critical applications. "MySQL has become a tremendously popular option across many types of organizations. Barriers to growth exist within enterprises that require a database management system that provides a high-level of service and 24x7 uptime," said Susan Eustis, President, WinterGreen Research. "A version of MySQL that meets these demands would see strong adoption in multiple verticals, including insurance, financial services and the travel industry."

“Solid has a rich history of delivering highly innovative and differentiated database products to our customers. We will continue this tradition by providing MySQL users with the advanced performance and functionality demanded by mission-critical enterprises and telecommunications providers,” said Alain Couder, CEO and president of Solid Information Technology.
