Cdigix, Inc. today announced that it has become a corporate member of Internet2 and plans to collaborate with the consortium and its members to develop innovative content distribution and federated identity management technologies that will play a critical role in the future of online digital media. In the future, Cdigix will also look to leverage the exceptional speed and advanced capabilities of Internet2's network to offer its Clabs educational multimedia service and to provide a platform for technology experimentation in ways not possible on today’s commercial Internet.

“As more universities leverage online content to enhance their academic resources, our community has looked to partner with industry leaders like Cdigix to participate in the development of next-generation distribution and middleware technologies,” said Laurie Burns, Internet2 executive director of Member and Partner Relations. “We look forward to working collaboratively with Cdigix as we explore this important area.”

Cdigix’s participation in Internet2 builds upon its long history and experience within the research and education communities. For more than two years, Cdigix has provided its university partners with its innovative Clabs educational platform, supplying them with the tools they need to post and maintain course-critical digital audio and video media online – to be accessed by students on multiple platforms to fulfill their course requirements, while complying with copyright policies.

In addition, last year, Cdigix partnered with several universities to join the InCommon Federation and to deploy Shibboleth(R) open source federated identity management software, a technology and trust community developed by Internet2 members. InCommon builds on Shibboleth, which is deployed by thousands of educational organizations worldwide, to provide a scalable trust infrastructure which allows universities and resource providers to share protected online information in a highly secure environment.

“Internet2 is comprised of the nation’s most progressive campuses which are connected via an advanced network infrastructure,” said Larry Jacobson, Chairman and CEO of Cdigix. “We are proud to be a member of this community and look forward to working with other members to distribute legal digital content in truly innovative and effective new ways.”
