TechSmith Corp., provider of screen capture and recording solutions, announced availability of the SnagIt 8 German version with a new user interface, workflow and feature set that makes everyday computing tasks involving capturing, editing and sharing images easier. SnagIt enables users to take screenshots of exactly what they see on their screens to communicate ideas fast, explain concepts clearly, and archive electronic information with point-and-click convenience.

SnagIt 8 provides the ability to automatically grab active links when taking screenshots of Web pages, creating the interactive screenshots. This is the latest in a long line of innovations over the past 15 years that have helped make SnagIt a popular screen capture utility, with more than seven million users.

"With SnagIt 8, we are knocking down barriers and bringing screen capture to new audiences and users," said Tony Dunckel, Product Manager at TechSmith. "We've brought the most popular features to the forefront so new users can realize immediate benefits while still having the option to customize SnagIt for maximum effectiveness. The learning curve has essentially been eliminated. New users can be up and running within minutes after installing SnagIt 8, and we've enhanced SnagIt's editing capabilities, including PDF output, so users don't have to use additional and expensive software to embellish their captures."

SnagIt enables users to capture, edit and share any image, including scrolling windows, objects, menus, video, text, and Web pages and include them in emails and instant messages, PowerPoint presentations, MS Office documents, marketing and sales materials, technical documentation, class handouts, Web sites and blogs.

New features in SnagIt 8 include:

-- Interactive screenshots -- users may capture any image, portion of a Web page or an entire scrolling Web page and SnagIt will automatically include all active links in the screenshot

-- Flash (SWF) hotspots -- users are able to enhance their screenshots by adding descriptive text and photos that pop-up when a viewer hovers over a hotspot; hotspots can be added to both screenshots and photos

-- Vector-based editing -- users can edit and re-edit a screenshot or other image with dozens of paint tools, editing tasks, special effects, sizing, color and style options in the easy-to-use SnagIt editor

-- New user interface and streamlined workflow - based on extensive usability testing with Morae, the capture, editing and sharing of screenshots has been simplified and accelerated so users can share exactly what they want and apply edits quickly and intuitively.

-- Adobe PDF output -- users are now able to save their images to this universal document format. Additionally, users can capture any electronic document, spreadsheet or web page (including pages from web-based applications that don't have a print option) directly to the SnagIt virtual printer and save it as a PDF. The time, date and URL are automatically included in web pages.

-- SnagIt project file format -- users may save their screenshots and all enhancements as .SNAG files and reload it in the SnagIt Editor to make adjustments and updates later or allow other SnagIt users to add enhancements
