Erie Ideas is using open source resolving community social issues and ideas. August 13, 2007; 12:20 AM
ERIE, Pa -- A few folks around town are buzzing about the successful beta trials
of a new web service that "may" help local leaders stay on track. ErieIdeas.com
allows the citizens of Erie, Pa to submit ideas and have others in the community
vote for them. The idea is to then take the top ideas each month and send them
to all local and state representatives along with all the local media
outlets.

The Erie Ideas Website |
"I love this!" said one beta tester. "This keeps everyone on the
same page." Each idea posted can be rated and discussed by anyone. Each person
in the discussion can also be rated. The rating effects the users "karma" and
his or her comments and votes begin to lose reputation. The whole thing is
almost self policed.
Erie Ideas is the first "Functional Community
Network" of it's kind and boasts a fast clean interface which loads smoothly in
most browsers. The theme is off the highly popular "Love Erie" campaign that was
launched last season. "I really like the interface, "said another tester
"Everyone should, and can use this" ###
