Laszlo Systems Introduces Laszlo Webtop

Sophisticated Framework Integrates RIAs to Transform Online Experiences

March 20, 2007; 05:37 AM
Laszlo Systems, the leading provider of Rich Internet Application (RIA) software, today announced the release of Laszlo Webtop at the AJAXWorld Conference & Expo East. Laszlo Webtop is a commercially licensed software product built on OpenLaszlo that uniquely combines the functionality and ease-of-use of a conventional desktop user interface with the ubiquity of browser deployment.

Designed to support the delivery of integrated suites of OpenLaszlo RIAs, Laszlo Webtop offers a consistent user experience that is accessible from any web-enabled computer. The wide-ranging appeal of Laszlo Webtop makes it ideal for internal or consumer-facing corporate deployments, varying from financial dashboards to consumer communications consoles to enriched enterprise portals.

Laszlo Webtop brings many of the features commonly associated with conventional desktop interfaces to users via standard web browsers, including:

  • Single Sign-On: Easy access to multiple applications from different sources with common branding and skins
  • Built-in Windowing and Docking: Simple, simultaneous use of multiple applications within a single browser pane
  • Drag-and-Drop Data Sharing: Exchange of information across disparate applications through Webtops innovative SmartObject technology

Laszlo Webtop responds to strong demand from our enterprise accounts and our global developer community, who are looking for ways to create and deliver integrated RIA solutions to their partners, employees and customers, said Steve Ciesinski, Laszlos Chairman and CEO. Laszlo Webtop, combined with OpenLaszlo, results in major savings of time and investment in software development and deployment. This major step forward in RIA technology also presents new opportunities to generate revenues and increase user satisfaction.

Laszlo Webtop supports the scalability, security and reliability requirements of mission-critical deployments inside and outside of the enterprise. Laszlo Webtop is an extensible framework that allows seamless integration of pre-built and custom-built applications. It also features a Java-based server that enables easy integration of Web Services and fits well into a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).

Jim Serafin, President and Chief Operating Officer of Enterpulse, a partner of Laszlo and a nationwide web systems integrator, said, Weve jumped at the opportunity to use Webtop because our business is to provide our clients, some of the worlds largest corporations, with best-of-breed web technologies and solutions. Laszlo, a true innovator and pioneer of RIA, has taken the industry to a whole new level with Laszlo Webtop.

Laszlo Webtop taps a growing trend in RIAs, and enterprise software in general.

Ray Valdes, Senior Analyst at Gartner, commented, Increasingly portalsin both the consumer and enterprise marketsare becoming points of aggregation not only for content, but also for applications, and using RIAs as the delivery mechanism ensures the best user experience possible.
