Apogee Software announced the Aphelion(TM) Java Runtime
Environment (JRE) for real-time embedded systems. Based on IBM's
Java-powered WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment product (WEME), the
JRE has been certified as fully compliant with the latest version
1.0.1(b) of the Real-Time Specification for Java (RTSJ) and with the
J2ME Platform. This also means that the JRE passes all tests in the
latest RTSJ TCK test suite and in J2ME TCK test suites for the CDC VM
and Foundation Profile.
Demonstrated in IBM's booth at
JavaOne on May 16 to May 18, the RedHatLinux/x86-targeted JRE is
comprised of IBM's J2ME-compatible WEME product enhanced by Apogee for
compliance with RTSJ and Apogee's RTSJ class library providing the
RTSJ-specific Java APIs.
"Apogee is the first and, thus far,
the only provider of Java runtime environments offering JREs that are
fully compliant with the latest RTSJ specification and the J2ME
Platform", said George Malek, CEO of Apogee. "This should be welcome
news to developers of real-time software systems who want to switch
from ADA or C/C++ to Java for implementing such systems".
"We
are pleased that Apogee has based their industry-leading real-time
offering on an IBM Java-powered product. RTSJ opens the door for whole
new classes of applications to enjoy the productivity gains of the Java
development platform." - Steve Gruber, Program Director, IBM Embedded
Software
